Hello! I’m Helen

Helen Blackburn PTSTA (P)

I am a psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer based in rural Wales, where I practice both indoors and outdoors. My work is held gently yet firmly within the context of Ecological TA.

Having moved to to Ffynnon Dawel in a beautiful secluded valley back in 1998, my life has been profoundly affected by raising a family so close to nature. This, and my fascination with how humans communicate and understand ourselves, with all the challenges we meet along the way, led me to begin my psychotherapy training in 2007.

As I developed my practice, and began working with vulnerable young adults in my local town, I was struck by the importance of their connection with nature. When human relationships had let them down, their fragile sense of who they were was nurtured by their connection with other growing things around them. They could find themselves reflected in the beauty and comfort beyond the solely human realm.

These experiences have culminated in the realisation that it is deeply beneficial to include our reciprocal relationship with the land during psychotherapy. Our alienation from the land and other creatures is one of the causes of our disconnection from ourselves. Moving from alienation to interconnectedness helps us to make sense of who we are and how we belong.

My four-year training in Ecological TA, led by Hayley Marshall and Giles Barrow, gave me the encouragement to continue developing my practice in partnership with Ffynnon Dawel. The significance of my long-term relationship with the land that I love has become increasingly meaningful in my work.

I belong professionally to national and international accrediting bodies:
