About Visiting Ffynnon Dawel
Location
Ffynnon Dawel, SA43 2LX, is in a beautiful location out on the west coast of Wales in the county of Ceredigion. We are about ten minutes drive from the nearest town of Cardigan, and from a lovely variety of sandy beaches and scenic coastal walks. Nearby further inland there are bracing hill walks, wild swimming lakes and waterfalls, ancient burial sites and stone circles. We are within an easy walk of a friendly old fashioned pub, and in the other direction the woodland footpath will take you part of the way to Llechryd, the nearest village.
To give an idea of travelling distance from other places, it takes around four hours to drive here from London, and two and a half hours from Bristol, mostly on a direct route down the M4. Manchester takes four and a half hours mostly on a more scenic route through Wales. We are an hour from Aberystwyth, and just under an hour from Carmarthen.
Our nearest train stations are Carmarthen or Aberystwyth. Unfortunately getting here by public transport alone, although possible Monday to Friday, can take a long time due to a limited bus service, of which there are none running on Sundays.
Accommodation
We can provide shared accommodation in a yurt and a belltent, both with wood stoves and foam mattresses, which each sleep up to five people. There are also spaces in the woods and woodland clearing where you can pitch your own (small) tents. There is an additional charge of £10 per night for staying onsite. It can get quite cold at night, so please bring ample bedding to ensure your comfort. We supply firewood for the woodstoves and outdoor fire. If you would prefer to stay off site there are local Airbnbs ( one that can be reached on foot through the woods!) and pubs with rooms, and we can send you details of these.
Meals and food preparation
All meals can be prepared and shared in the large fully equipped kitchen in the house, there is also a tea station in the small roundhouse in the camp clearing, with teas, coffee and milks. A welcome meal is provided for the group on the first evening, and for the rest of the course the kitchen is available for you to to make and share your own food.
Other facilities
There are two compost loos near the camp area, and a shower and flush toilets in the house for your use. Fresh spring water is provided for washing and drinking.
Parking
As well as a small car park, it is possible for all participants to park on the verge alongside our track, less than five minutes walk from the camp clearing.
Useful things to bring with you
Please bring warm and water proof clothing, footwear and warm socks, hats and gloves for your comfort. There is limited electricity in the camping area, and no electricity in the tents, although camping lanterns are provided. It will be helpful to bring a torch, and an alarm clock so you can minimise your use of mobile phones whilst you are here. You are welcome to charge your phone in the house, where Wifi is available, although mobile coverage is patchy throughout. The access to the site is on foot from the car park, down a track or a woodland path. We provide wheelbarrows for you to use to bring your gear down.
If you would like any more information before booking please email Helen at Helen@beyondthegarden.uk, who will be happy to answer any questions. Once you have booked we will be in touch to confirm details regarding accommodation, dietary requirements and travel directions.
